Irish Inter-Church Meeting

L-R: Bishop Alan McGuckian, Juanita Majury, Claire Sego, Fr Martin Magill

Several representatives from the Diocese of Down & Connor took part in this year’s Irish Inter-Church Meeting, held on 13–14 November. Entitled “Nicaea 1700: Strengthening our Witness and Unity”, the gathering focused on the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and explored how the Nicene Creed continues to shape Christian unity, dialogue and shared witness today.

Participants heard rich keynote inputs from speakers including Archbishop Angaelos, Coptic Archbishop of London, Rev. Dr Liam Fraser, Minister of Linlithgow & Avon Valley Parish Church (Scotland), Dr Tom McLean, St. Patrick’s Pontifical University, Gillian Kingston, Methodist Church and Dr Miceál Hurley, Greek Orthodox Church, each offering insights on the legacy of Nicaea and its relevance for the churches today.

It was a valuable opportunity to meet with brothers and sisters from many traditions, to listen, learn and pray together and to reflect on how the churches in Ireland can keep building relationships rooted in faith, hope and love. All who attended were grateful for the warm welcome and for the chance to contribute to this year’s conversations.
