CURSILLO MOVEMENT OF DOWN AND CONNOR DIOCESE
The Cursillo Movement is an international evangelical movement composed of lay people from all walks of life. The movement was founded in Spain by Eduardo Bonnin in the late 1940s, and came to Ireland about 40 years ago, and has been in the diocese since 1989. Its principal remit is to re-Christianise our environment. The members organize 3-Day Cursillos (short courses in Christianity), at present three times a year, lasting from Thursday evening until Sunday evening – sometimes called a “3-Day walk with Christ”. After the weekends, new members are encouraged to Christianise their environments, starting with their home environment, and from there continue their evangelizing on an individual level. The Cursillo has a unique method of helping Christians to continue their walk with Christ after the weekends.
The Cursillo Movement has been given full recognition and approval in a Decree from the Pontifical Council for the Laity on 30th May 2004.

THE FOCOLARE MOVEMENT
The Focolare Movement (www.focotare.org) is an international movement, inspired by the gospel, working for unity in all spheres of life. It was founded by Chiara Lubich in 1943 and approved by the Catholic Church in 1962. Its specific aim is that unity which Jesus prayed for. “May they all be one.” (Jn 17:21). By practicing and promoting a Gospel-based life and social projects related to it, the Focolare Movement draws together people from all Christian traditions and from many of the world’s religions, alongside people with no formal faith, who share the aim of building a united world.

KOINONIA JOHN THE BAPTIST
Koinonia John the Baptist is one of the new ecclesial movements formed within the Catholic Church after Vatican II, a fruit of the Holy Spirit, to promote effective ways in preaching the Gospel in response to the challenges of living in todayís world of changing situations.
Formed in 1979 in Italy, Koinonia has almost 5,000 members world-wide consisting of priests, consecrated brothers and sisters, and lay faithful. A lay community of 80 members now exists in Belfast since October 2001. Koinonia is a community formed in friendship, with a call to evangelise in the power of the Holy Spirit, following the example of John the Baptist who witnessed and pointed to Jesus. Koinonia reaches out to all the people of God, including the young, the not so young and the elderly. Koinonia proposes a New Evangelisation according to current Church teaching, by forming people in a biblical mentality and by laying down the foundations of our faith in ‘new ways, new fervour and new methods’ through prayer, praise and scripture proclamation, the encouragement of ‘Houses of Prayer’ and various courses and training (Philip, Paul, John, Moses, Joshua etc.) Koinonia John the Baptist is also actively engaged in outreaches such as street and door to door evangelisation, city faith festivals, and monthly Jesus Heals meetings.

Legion of Mary Activities
The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organisation for lay people which was founded in Dublin in 1922 by Frank Duff to witness to the full teaching of the Holy Roman Catholic Church through prayer and good works. Under the patronage of Our Blessed Lady, we provide the parish priest with a lay organisation who can assist him with spiritual pastoral care of the whole of the parish.
The Legion of Mary is open to all practicing Catholics who wish to advance the mission of the Gospel through active participation in the whole of the parish under the spiritual direction of the Parish Priest.
Our organisation is based on Parish Groups called Praesidia. All Catholics are invited to join us in our work for Our Blessed Lady. If your parish does not have a Praesidium of the Legion of Mary, we will assist in setting one up.
