World Youth Day
July 2013
Rio De Janeiro
We are delighted to inform you that we are now accepting expressions of interest for the Diocesan Pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Rio De Janeiro in July 2013. As you will be aware World Youth Day is an opportunity for the young people of our diocese to come together with other young Catholics from around the world to celebrate their faith.
The Down and Connor Youth Commission has organised very successful pilgrimages to previous World Youth Days in Rome, Toronto, Cologne, Sydney and Madrid. This year we are hoping to extend the pilgrimage to include a period working with Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Project. Before attending the main World Youth Day event our young people and leaders will join a Habitat team that will work alongside families in Sao Paolo to build houses that they will then live in.
If any young people are interested in joining us, and aged 18 and over, please complete the ‘Expression of Interest’ form and return it to the Youth Commission offices in Berry Street before Monday 22nd October 2012 by post or by email – info@youthcom.org. The follow-up recruitment steps will be dependent on the level of interest and we will contact all those who have expressed an interest in joining us in the week beginning Monday 22nd October 2012.
We will be planning a series of catechetical meetings prior to the pilgrimage. We are keen to ensure that this unique faith experience is open to all young people as we continuously work to widen participation.
